In a world full of distractions, it’s easy to feel like productivity is measured by how many tasks we can juggle at once – the so-called 'multitasking' ability. However, I believe a more effective measure of productivity lies in our ability to maintain focus for extended periods of time.
In my early years of building a personal brand and diving into the world of content creation, I often found myself juggling multiple tasks at once—scripting podcasts, scheduling guest interviews, creating LinkedIn posts, and managing personal finance consultations. At first, I thought multitasking was a badge of honor. The busier I looked, the more productive I felt.
But I soon realized that while I was doing many things at once, nothing was getting the full attention it needed. I would switch between tasks, only to come back to a project feeling disoriented, and deadlines were becoming more stressful. The quality of my work began to take a hit.
That’s when I decided to get serious about using my calendar as a productivity tool rather than just a place to record appointments. I set a rule for myself: "One task at a time, fully focused, fully present." Each task—whether creating content, writing LinkedIn posts, or preparing for a 1-on-1 session—got its own dedicated slot in my calendar.
I started blocking off chunks of time for everything I needed to do. Creating a video script? I’d set aside two focused hours. Planning my next LinkedIn post? It had its own time block. If I had a session about personal branding or a deep dive into property management, I’d schedule it with time both before and after for prep and reflection. This way, I wasn’t overlapping tasks or feeling like I had to rush through one to get to the next.
The transformation was incredible. By committing fully to each task during its designated time, I started working more efficiently. The quality of my content improved, I had fewer “catch-up” moments, and the constant stress of multitasking faded. Instead of feeling like I was running in circles, I felt a sense of calm control over my schedule.

Great advice! Multitasking is a myth that results in poorer performance (depending on the mixture of sensory domains). However, sometimes blocking off time is not enough; you need something to block out the distractions that inevitably will come up.
